What is Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is a medication used as a type 2 diabetes treatment to help control blood sugar levels by mimicking the GLP-1 hormone in your body. Semaglutide is now also used as an injectable medication to support weight loss for adults who are either overweight, obese, or severely obese according to BMI measurements.

What is GLP-1? Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) is a hormone that is naturally made in your body and signals your body to release insulin. When insulin is released, it signals the body to decrease your blood sugar levels by sending the sugar into your muscles and tissues to be used as energy. When sugar stays in your bloodstream and your muscles aren't getting that energy, your body sends a signal to your brain to say you are hungry and need more food!

So how does semaglutide work? Semaglutide is classified as a GLP-1 agonist and, when injected into the body, signals the production of GLP-1. In small doses, Semaglutide increases insulin secretion in order to treat diabetes. In higher doses, it works to regulate appetite by ensuring sugar moves out of the bloodstream and into the tissues and muscles that need the energy. When this happens, the body will no longer send the signal for more food so frequently. In other words, Semaglutide helps mediate blood sugar levels and subsequently encourage weight loss when combined with some lifestyle improvements. It is FDA approved, but unfortunately not covered by insurance.

We also encourage 30 minutes of exercise, (can be broken down into two 15 minute segments) limit wine and alcohol for special occasions only, no processed foods, hydrate, and eat lots of frozen or fresh fruits and vegetables...It works!‍

-Thyroid Panel Fasting Glucose (only if early morning appointment)
-Liver Function Tests
-CMP
-lipid profile
-A1C
-CBC
-amylase & lipase

Exercise goal: 150 minutes/week with weights/strength training included.
Track food: food log x 1 month
Sleep at least 8 hours: Inadequate sleep causes ghrelin to increase, leptin to decrease, producing greater  hunger than when rested.
Semaglutide with L-carnitine - Weekly injections   *Week 4- 40 units  

• L-carnitine helps turn fat into energy Semaglutide:  

• Promotes satiety (*Week 2- 20 units)
• Delays gastric emptying (*Week 3- 30 units)
• Activates glucagon-like-peptide-1 receptor, increasing insulin secretion, delaying glucagon secretion (*Week 1- 10 units)

Dosing instructions:
Start at 10 units the first week. If you do not experience unmanageable side effects (the most common side effect being nausea) - advance the dose to 20 units the second week. If you still tolerate the medication without intolerable side effects, advance the dose on the 3rd week to 30 units. The goal is to get to 40 units as soon as possible. unless you are having side effects enough that you cannot progress the dose. If this is the case, stay at your current dose until you are able to advance it by another 10 units.

Caution using semaglutide with:

-Renal Impairment
-Concurrent nephrotoxic agent use
-Volume depletion
-Pancreatitis history
-Diabetic retinopathy
-Female patients of reproductive potential

Semaglutide NOT for patients with:

-Medullary thyroid cancer
-Multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome
-Type 1 diabetes

Common reactions to semaglutide:

• Most common is nausea
• Increased heart rate
• Diarrhea, vomiting, constipation
• Abdominal pain
• Headache
• Fatigue
• Indigestion
• Dizziness
• Belching/burping Retinal disorder in those with diabetes mellitus
• Low blood sugar in those with diabetes mellitus Flatulence
• Gastroenteritis
• GERD
• Increased amylase and lipase
• Low blood pressure

Once agreeing to join our weight loss program your first vial will cost $500.00 for the first vial (typically lasting 1 month), then automatically price per vial drops to $400.00 until you choose to leave the program.

This program is all inclusive, once purchased you will receive initial lab work, monthly follow-up appointments, the vial of Semaglutide, syringes, and sanitary wipes. A second vial of Semaglutide may be necessary in a singular month, depending on weekly dosage- each vial necessary is $400.00

If you choose to have your weekly injections done in-office the price will be covered in your first vial fee of $500.00. After the first vial, there will be a $10.00 office fee per injection.
